Take Two
App Design
2021
My approach to a Perth Advertising & Design Club (PADC) live student brief from 2021.
Breast cancer awareness branding and app UI design.
PROBLEM
Women are not conducting breast self-exams as often as recommended, while more than 20 000 people are directly affected by breast cancer diagnoses every year;
INSIGHT
More and more women face demanding schedules and ‘bigger things to worry about’ and neglect looking after themselves the way they should, because they ‘forget’;
SOLUTION
Take Two is a novel phone application that can recognize when you’re in a trusted network/location and prompt you to conduct a short self-exam and log the results.
The welcome page is the landing page, and is what is displayed after the splash screen after the application has launched and loaded. The page offers initial information on what the app’s purpose is. Upon tapping on ‘get started’ the user is prompted with guidance for a simple two-minute self-exam and the option to record any findings.
The use of grapefruit slices is to a) be visually pleasing, and b) ties in with research on the effects of citrus fruit on cancer prevention.
By granting the app access to the user’s location, the app can recognize when the user is at home or at another location previously approved and listed by the user, and will pop up with a reminder to conduct a self-check. While it is possible to postpone the reminder, they will not be dismissed fully until a self-check is conducted and recorded.
When tapping on OK, the application will launch and direct the user to the next step.
This ensures the user gets the full benefit of the reminder concept.
